Paralogue 15.1: A Charm to Dispel Your Curse

Featuring: Sula, Elwyn, Leodin

[2:53 PM] [SWEET] Kwakado: Sula takes Shimi racing through the streets, her legs kicking with pent-up energy from last night.(edited)
[2:54 PM] [SWEET] Kwakado: His eyes move even faster, searching for any familiar faces, opportunities, something to make up for the time he'd wasted.
[2:58 PM] [TART] Mango: Elwyn unknowingly enters the very same street with Michel. "So this is where that road leads..."
[2:59 PM] [SWEET] Kwakado: Sula pulls up on the reins, and Shimi turns sharply to the side as her wings push her to an abrupt stop before hitting the rider. "Kwemo to---Elwyn, yes?"
[3:01 PM] [TART] Mango: "..." Elwyn was frozen and white from fright. His mouth twitches into a frown. "...Yes, that is my name."
[3:04 PM] [TART] Mango: He breathed in and tried to calm himself. "Wouldn't...flying in the sky be better than riding on the ground?"
[3:04 PM] [TART] Mango: "I'm sure the passerbys and Michel would agree."
[3:07 PM] [SWEET] Kwakado: "But the ground is more discreet, you see. More, out of the way? No, but it helps me to see who I am passing."
[3:09 PM] [TART] Mango: "Well you barely crashed into me, but I suppose that could be my fault for intruding and not paying attention..."
[3:10 PM] [SWEET] Kwakado: "No, no." Sula rests his chin on his palm. "Truly, that has been my fate these past few days." He coughs a bit
[3:10 PM] [TART] Mango: "Pardon?"
[3:13 PM] [SWEET] Kwakado: "Ah, forgive me El-wyn. I mean to say, that I have been a vessel of death and doom."
[3:13 PM] [SWEET] Kwakado: He rubs his stomach. "Perhaps it is all the Frey-zen food here."
[3:14 PM] [TART] Mango: "...A vessel of death and doom...?"
[3:14 PM] [TART] Mango: Elwyn stifled a laugh.
[3:14 PM] [TART] Mango: "Oh, Sula!" Elwyn couldn't help but giggle. "You just have a stomach ache."
[3:16 PM] [SWEET] Kwakado: "Ha ha ha ha! The Dwabi say: Nanyo starts on the inside." He frowns. "But it spreads. Do they...teach you of healing? In Izu-mo? Like they do in Khlin?"
[3:23 PM] [TART] Mango: "I haven't really heard of how healing techniques are taught in Khlin, but I assume they are the same. We are taught how to channel our magic energy into staffs or rods to use on others."(edited)
[3:24 PM] [SWEET] Kwakado: Sula looks around, then gets off his horse. He looks up at Elwyn. "I do have need of a healer's wisdom. Do you have some time?"
[3:25 PM] [TART] Mango: "I always have time for someone in need. Whatever is the problem?"
[3:27 PM] [SWEET] Kwakado: "It's a problem with...a curse. Something beyond my skills as an Aishatu."
[3:27 PM] [TART] Mango: "A curse?"
[3:27 PM] [TART] Mango: "What type of curse?"
[3:28 PM] [SWEET] Kwakado: "Yes.." Sula cuts off Elwyn's second question. "do you know how to make a curse stop?"
[3:30 PM] [TART] Mango: "It depends on what type of curse it is. I've learned of Hoshidan charms and techniques that repel curses, but it depends on the magical strength of the user and if it could combat against the power of the one who caused the curse."
[3:31 PM] [SWEET] Kwakado: Sula sighs. He hadn't prepared for this at all, and the one person who could give him these sorts of details was the very person who could never know any of this was taking place.
[3:32 PM] [SWEET] Kwakado: "A curse to twist a person's fate. So strong, it eats at them from within, poisoning their meals, corrupting their every being. I...don't know who caused it."
[3:33 PM] [TART] Mango: A curse to twist a person's fate... Elwyn had a knowing smile. "I see..."
[3:34 PM] [TART] Mango: "A curse like that, is very easy to break."
[3:34 PM] [SWEET] Kwakado: Sula gave no response but his ritual hum
[3:35 PM] [TART] Mango: "So, who is the cursed?"
[3:36 PM] [SWEET] Kwakado: "Ah, but you mentioned only the user's strength and the one who caused the curse, El-wyn." Sula kept his eyes closed. "Does the magical strength of the victim matter as well?"
[3:37 PM] [TART] Mango: "Perhaps. There are curses that thrive off of the magic of the cursed and use it to dispel cures."
[3:38 PM] [TART] Mango: "But such curses are seldom used, usually victims are people with no magical talent."
[3:40 PM] [SWEET] Kwakado: The Dwabi winced. "I can say that this person is...quite gifted."
[3:40 PM] [TART] Mango: "Are you perhaps describing yourself?"
[3:44 PM] [SWEET] Kwakado: "Ha ha ha ha ha!" He grinned ear to ear. "They teach you well in Izumo-o. They are...as gifted as I am. Let us consider Sula-o the one who bears the curse...and the one who placed it."
[3:46 PM] [TART] Mango: "So, you believe that you've placed a curse that brings unfortune to yourself, right?"
[3:48 PM] [SWEET] Kwakado: "The Dwabi have a second saying: Nanyo spreads from heart to heart." Sula searches for the right words to express this: "It is like...bad blood in a river stream. No one knows who was cut, but now it lives in the birds, in the sea, and in the soup."
[3:49 PM] [TART] Mango: "I see..."
[3:50 PM] [SWEET] Kwakado: He gave Shimi's wing a pat. "But you are asking about power, yes? Consider Sula-o's power, from Sula, to Sula, against Sula." Somehow he made them all sound like different people.
[3:50 PM] [TART] Mango: "Well, why don't you join me as I return to where I stay? I can create a charm that will dispell your curse."
[3:50 PM] [SWEET] Kwakado: "You would do that for me, El-wyn?"
[3:50 PM] [SWEET] Kwakado: ".....why?"
[3:51 PM] [TART] Mango: "It is my duty to help those in need. Besides, what sort of friend would I be if I didn't help those I care about?"
[3:51 PM] [TART] Mango: He smiled. "I consider you my friend, Sula. I want to help you."
[3:53 PM] [SWEET] Kwakado: Sula reached to his scroll - still warm. "But we are strangers, uu? You would so quickly meddle in dark magic for so little?"
[3:55 PM] [TART] Mango: "The only payment I require, is to see those I help live happily."
[3:57 PM] [SWEET] Kwakado: "It is written--"
[3:57 PM] [SWEET] Kwakado: "Aa, no time for writing today. Let us hurry."
[3:58 PM] [SWEET] Kwakado: He mounts Shimi promptly
[3:59 PM] [TART] Mango: "Follow me. The inn is around here."
[4:00 PM] [SWEET] Kwakado: As the horses get closer, Sula's feet twitch. "What are the inns like, here, in Ama-terasu?"
[4:02 PM] [SWEET] Kwakado: "I have not been to one yet, ha ha."
[4:03 PM] [TART] Mango: "Oh, they're comfortable. I'm sure you'll enjoy staying in one."
[4:04 PM] [SWEET] Kwakado: He grimaces from behind the troubador. "Then...this house...that is it?"
[4:06 PM] [TART] Mango: "Yes. I hope you don't mind if you wait here?"
[4:06 PM] [SWEET] Kwakado: "No, no." Sula needed a moment anyway to get a feel for the street.
[4:06 PM] [TART] Mango: "I'll go fix up a charm to dispel your curse." Elwyn dismounted Michel and quickly entered.
[4:08 PM] [SWEET] Kwakado: Sula leaned back on the saddle, scratching Shimi's neck with his feet.
[4:09 PM] [SWEET] Kwakado: He rolled off to the side, landing on his back. It was good to have an excuse to stop moving around so much.
[4:10 PM] [TART] Mango: In time, Elwyn returned bearing what seems to be a necklace.
[4:11 PM] [SWEET] Kwakado: Sula's head poked up from the street. "Uuuhh...."(edited)
[4:11 PM] [SWEET] Kwakado: "I am sorry, Elwyn, I should not have asked you. I know you worked hard on it...."
[4:12 PM] [SWEET] Kwakado: Sula sits up. "But could you make it a little bigger?"
[4:14 PM] [TART] Mango: "It can be bigger if you'd like. All you have to is..." Elwyn had undone the necklace and with some rearranging it seemed to be able to fit more things than before.
[4:14 PM] [TART] Mango: "Voila."(edited)
[4:15 PM] [SWEET] Kwakado: "Ba-bu!!" The Dwabi lept up, nearly tripping over his flashy red robe. "You can change its size over time! This is perfect, El-wyn!"
[4:16 PM] [TART] Mango: "Just put it on and in time your self-induced curse will be undone."
[4:18 PM] [SWEET] Kwakado: "Ha ha ha ha ha! You have freed me from a great burden, El-wyn!"
[4:18 PM] [TART] Mango: "But." Elwyn interrupted.(edited)
[4:19 PM] [TART] Mango: Elwyn smiled and put a finger to Sula's chest. "This charm's magical abilities thrive off of positive energy."
[4:20 PM] [TART] Mango: "For it to be truly be effective, you must keep an open mind and keep hope close."
[4:21 PM] [SWEET] Kwakado: His smile lowers for a moment, into an expression of intrigue.
[4:23 PM] [SWEET] Kwakado: "...You know you're supposed to charge a few coins for these, El-wyn."
[4:24 PM] [TART] Mango: "Free of charge." He closed his eyes, still smiling.
[4:24 PM] [SWEET] Kwakado: "............"
[4:24 PM] [SWEET] Kwakado: "Omm..."
[4:25 PM] [SWEET] Kwakado: Sula's brow furrowed, and his grey eyes grew misty.
[4:25 PM] [TART] Mango: "Sula?"
[4:26 PM] [SWEET] Kwakado: "I am not entirely familiar with the ways of the mainland, sir."
[4:26 PM] [SWEET] Kwakado: He steps back.
[4:27 PM] [SWEET] Kwakado: "What is it that you call a robber who takes none of his victims' possessions?"
[4:28 PM] [TART] Mango: "Freeloader?"
[4:29 PM] [SWEET] Kwakado: "I see. I will have to remember that one in the future."
[4:30 PM] [TART] Mango: "Well...I do hope that the charm ends up working. All you need to do is stay positive, even in the darkest of times."
[4:31 PM] [SWEET] Kwakado: "No, keep it. I can't accept such a blessed gift, sir."
[4:32 PM] [TART] Mango: "Sula, I insist."
[4:32 PM] [SWEET] Kwakado: Sula sighed. Why couldn't his mind submit today?
[4:33 PM] [SWEET] Kwakado: "Ah, alright." Sula flashed a grim smile as he rustled through his robe's pockets. "How about a trade?"
[4:34 PM] [TART] Mango: "A trade?"
[4:35 PM] [SWEET] Kwakado: He withdrew a delightful-looking feather arrangement in the vague shape of a person.
[4:36 PM] [SWEET] Kwakado: "This is a sacred Spirit-Feather Totem Troll."
[4:37 PM] [TART] Mango: "The name sounds pretty up until the troll..."
[4:37 PM] [TART] Mango: "I don't know if I can accept this if it is as sacred as it's name..."
[4:39 PM] [SWEET] Kwakado: His accent thickened as he talked. "Yes, yes! It may sound simple but the life of the Dwa-bi is not as complicated as all these big, big kingdoms, Elwyn-e..." He coughed. "Just leave this by your bed, and when Nanyo demons come to eat your dreams, the Totem Troll will make them go away!"
[4:41 PM] [TART] Mango: Elwyn held the feather. "..."
[4:42 PM] [TART] Mango: "If I can only set it beside my bed, then..." Elwyn placed the feather behind his ear.
[4:43 PM] [TART] Mango: "Like this, I can take it anywhere with me."
[4:43 PM] [SWEET] Kwakado: "Yes, yes, Sula-o give many blessings in each feather! Sula-o plucked them from the tail of 10 magic birds! All you need to feed the troll, is...plenty of sleep and a good meal, ha ha ha ha ha!"
[4:43 PM] [TART] Mango: "...Feed the troll?"
[4:46 PM] [SWEET] Kwakado: Sula's laugh turns into a cough.
[4:46 PM] [SWEET] Kwakado: "Yes, yes, very good! 8 hours a day keeps the demons away! So they say!"
[4:47 PM] [TART] Mango: "I...see."
[4:48 PM] [SWEET] Kwakado: Sula mounts Shimi, honestly forgetting about the necklace. His accent returns to normal. "I suppose we all receive the fates we have earned, uu?"
[4:49 PM] [SWEET] Kwakado: He gives Shimi a tap with his toe, and the pegasus begins to trot away.(edited)
[4:49 PM] [TART] Mango: "Yes, but I don't see what this has to do with the charm..."
[4:50 PM] [TART] Mango: "Oh, Sula! Should you use the necklace, be sure to keep any objects that could attract evil spirits away!"
[4:50 PM] [SWEET] Kwakado: "Good idea! Put all the curses together, and all they do is..breed more curses!"
[4:51 PM] [TART] Mango: "What...?"
[4:52 PM] [SWEET] Kwakado: With a pained "Ba", Sula commands the pegasus to take flight. He thought of the time he had spent together with Vivianna. Perhaps Elwyn had given him at least one good piece of advice after all.
[4:53 PM] [TART] Mango: Put all the curses together? What does that mean...?
[4:54 PM] [SWEET] Kwakado: Sula took Shimi to the stables, and began caring for Este. He thanked the gods that Vivi was not there at the time.

[4:21 PM] [SWEET] Kwakado: Some time later, there is a knock on Elwyn's door(edited)
[4:24 PM] [TART] Mango: "Yes?" Elwyn opens the door.
[4:25 PM] REWlego: Leodin is sitting on his bed and gets up when the door is opened.
[4:26 PM] [SWEET] Kwakado: Their green-haired inkeeper stands at the doorway, scratching his moustache.
[4:27 PM] [SWEET] Kwakado: He points to Elwyn. "Someone 'ere to see you. Dark-skinned, like one of those chefs. You 'avin a meal delivered?"
[4:28 PM] [TART] Mango: "I don't believe so...where is the person you're talking about?"
[4:29 PM] [SWEET] Kwakado: He throws a thumb over his shoulder. "Outside. 'E can come in if you really want...but I don't trust a bloke without any shoes on 'im."
[4:30 PM] [TART] Mango: "No need to worry, Sir. I was just about ready to leave so you can rest easy."
[4:31 PM] REWlego: Leodin gets up and stands behind Elwyn.
[4:31 PM] [SWEET] Kwakado: The inkeeper grunts and gets back to his work.
[4:32 PM] [TART] Mango: "I have a fairly close idea on who could be waiting for us..."
[4:33 PM] [TART] Mango: Elwyn follows the innkeepers word and checks outside.
[4:33 PM] REWlego: Leodin follows Elwyn.
[4:34 PM] [SWEET] Kwakado: Sure enough, sitting at the edge of the road is Sula, cross-legged and deep in concentration. His eyes open at the sound of the footsteps.
[4:36 PM] [TART] Mango: "Sula." Elwyn bowed.
[4:36 PM] [SWEET] Kwakado: Sula returned the bow, his face nearly touching the ground. He held this position for a long time.
[4:36 PM] REWlego: Leodin waves to Sula.
[4:37 PM] [TART] Mango: "What brings you here?"
[4:39 PM] [TART] Mango: "I'm assuming it's because of this?" Elwyn took out the charm he made.
[4:41 PM] [SWEET] Kwakado: Sula's face is neutral and serene, and his grey eyes are clear. "Y-yes. To reject an earnest gift brings Nanyo to both."
[4:43 PM] [TART] Mango: Elwyn handed him the necklace. "You were just too caught up in the moment, no need to worry."
[4:44 PM] [SWEET] Kwakado: The Dwabi sighed, continually surprised at the depth of Elwyn's insight. He took the necklace and his grey eyes met Elwyn's.
[4:45 PM] [TART] Mango: "This isn't for you."
[4:46 PM] [SWEET] Kwakado: Sula nodded. "That is why I come back."
[4:46 PM] REWlego: Leodin watches this all, being very confused.
[4:46 PM] [TART] Mango: "I figured, I made it so it would fit you, but what you said about changing its size made me think..."
[4:46 PM] [TART] Mango: "Who is it really for?"
[4:48 PM] [SWEET] Kwakado: Sula hesitated a moment, but realized there was little harm in hiding much. "It is for my Este-i."
[4:48 PM] REWlego: Leodin smiles when he hears the name.
[4:48 PM] [TART] Mango: "The foal...I get it now."
[4:50 PM] [SWEET] Kwakado: "He is so young...his heart cannot withstand such darkness. And so this charm you have made me, whatever blessings it holds..." Sula clutched it tight. "It is my duty."
[4:50 PM] [TART] Mango: "...I suppose I should change my explanation while we're talking about this."
[4:52 PM] [TART] Mango: "You remember when I said the charm thrives off of positive energy, correct?"
[4:53 PM] [SWEET] Kwakado: Sula nodded. "I...lost control of myself when I heard that."
[4:54 PM] [SWEET] Kwakado: "Too many holy men on this continent say such things. They sell false blessings to fools." Sula chose not to elaborate. There was no need.
[4:56 PM] [TART] Mango: "Well, aside from how insulting that sounds, I will have to correct you." Elwyn gave him a stern stare.
[4:58 PM] [TART] Mango: "I'm sure you've heard of possession, so I won't ask. Victims of possessions are people who have lost their will, whose emotions they can only feel are despair. That is how evil spirits are attracted to them."
[5:00 PM] [SWEET] Kwakado: Sula is stunned into silence.
[5:01 PM] [TART] Mango: Elwyn started to pace as he continued to explain. "I created the charm so it would amplify and attract kind spirits, spirits that would bless the victim and attempt to dispel the curse. Possession can be broken and interfered with due to the power of positive emotions. Love, determination, the will to live..."
[5:01 PM] [TART] Mango: "Leodin."
[5:02 PM] [TART] Mango: "If you were possessed yourself, and the spirit attempted to attack me or Vivianna, what would you do?"
[5:03 PM] [SWEET] Kwakado: "I...see." Hearing Leodin's name, Sula looks over to him in surprise. "Leo-din? You are here too?"
[5:06 PM] REWlego: "I-I suppose I'd try to think about our bonds as friends... Hopefully that would give me enough willpower to cancel out the spirit's attempts."
[5:06 PM] [TART] Mango: "The main factor is willpower. Exactly what Leodin said."
[5:08 PM] [TART] Mango: "It matters not what the charm is used on. It will work."
[5:09 PM] [SWEET] Kwakado: "The power of Keiji-i..." Sula smiled. A fake charm that could still channel real magic...he wanted to learn this art.
[5:11 PM] [SWEET] Kwakado: "Kwemo-kwemi, El-wyn. You are truly an incredible man."
[5:15 PM] [SWEET] Kwakado: He stood up, holding the charm in his palm as if it were his trusty Ox Scroll. "And I see that I must thank you for looking after Leo-din, too."
[5:16 PM] [TART] Mango: "What are friends for."
[5:20 PM] [SWEET] Kwakado: "Please forgive me, El-wyn. I have learned...very little of hexes and dark magic in my time here."
[5:21 PM] [TART] Mango: "You already have my forgiveness. You can only learn from experience. You probably weren't taught much about such things..."
[5:24 PM] [SWEET] Kwakado: Sula shakes his head. "The Dwabi...know nothing of such power. To willingly accept Nanyo into the body, to use it as a blessing...." Sula stopped to hum. "It is unthinkable."
[5:27 PM] [TART] Mango: "Sometimes traveling and learning about different cultures can be an advantage." Elwyn smiled.
[5:28 PM] [SWEET] Kwakado: "Is it...far? Izu-mo?"
[5:30 PM] [TART] Mango: "It could very well be a long way if you plan on going by pegasus."(edited)
[5:31 PM] [TART] Mango: "If you'd like, you can always come with me back to Nolore."
[5:32 PM] [SWEET] Kwakado: Sula tries to take his mind off of the offer. "The Pegasus is quite capable in long-distance flights. With a Kwemo wind, they can cross oceans without much trouble."
[5:34 PM] [TART] Mango: "Well do you have any ideas if your pegasus gets tired in the middle of the ocean?"
[5:35 PM] [SWEET] Kwakado: "That...is why we do not fly over oceans! Ha!"
[5:36 PM] [TART] Mango: "Well your best bet is taking a ship then. Nolore is veeeeery far from here."
[5:38 PM] [SWEET] Kwakado: Sula gives another hum, as if commenting on the distance. "It is a...beautiful offer, but I can not visit Izu-mo for a long time."
[5:39 PM] [TART] Mango: "Ah, I see..."
[5:39 PM] [TART] Mango: "Well, if you ever do visit. The monastery will welcome you with open arms."
[5:40 PM] [SWEET] Kwakado: "For now, I have to return to the stables." Sula proudly holds up the necklace. Kwemo, El-wyn!"
[9:15 PM] [SWEET] Kwakado: =======END RP=======+
