[8:05 PM] MadGenius: Donovan roamed the hallways of the castle, mostly just going wherever his feet took him. As much as he wanted to just hole himself up in his room until this fiasco was over, the previous day's fighting had made him restless. Being holed up in a royal capital didn't help; although it was unlikely anyone would have noticed that he was technically on a wanted list, it still didn't do anything for his anxiety that he would be caught nevertheless.
[8:06 PM] MadGenius: He went around and about, passing through hallway and chamber, not particularly caring where he went, so long as he didn't get in trouble for it.
[8:07 PM] MadGenius: Despite the guard's reassurance that they had the whole monster situation under control, Donovan still kept his hatchet on his belt. It was better to be safe than sorry, especially when there were rumors that said monsters were actually in the castle itself.
[8:46 PM] Amasuro: In the west ward, standing beside the blockaded hallway leading towards the north ward, Joshua can be seen looking through the barrier. His armor was not being worn at the time, and instead, Joshua wore a set of casual clothes.
[8:58 PM] MadGenius: Donovan, his mind off wandering, just about ran into the barrier as he walked by Joshua, only realizing the hallway was blocked off at the last second.
[8:58 PM] MadGenius: "Oh. Guess I oughta turn around, then..."
[8:59 PM] MadGenius: He pivots around, then notices the other man, peering through. The man looks vaguely familiar, somehow, although Donovan can't place where he saw him before.
[8:59 PM] MadGenius: "You, uh, you waiting for it to open, or something?"
[9:03 PM] Amasuro: Joshua doesn't respond immediately to Donovan, his eyes still focused on the barrier.
"Heh, not quite. That's an avoidable mess I'd have to deal with if it were to open," Joshua chuckles to himself before turning his head to Donovan, arms crossed.
"Apologies, I'm just a bit lost in thought. Did you need something?"
[9:05 PM] MadGenius: "No. I was just wandering the halls. I've been a bit restless lately. I wasn't paying much attention to where I was going, and hit this dead end."
[9:06 PM] MadGenius: "You... you look familiar. Have we met, before?"
[9:09 PM] Amasuro: "We have, actually. Just yesterday, in fact," Joshua scans the mans attire, spotting the hatchet locked onto his belt.
"Yes, you must have been the man who assisted in our defense with the south ward, correct? I don't believe I've ever caught your name before."
[9:12 PM] MadGenius: Oh. Damn. That doesn't sound like any old regular soldier. Donovan thinks to himself.
[9:12 PM] MadGenius: "The name's Donovan Flinder."
[9:18 PM] Amasuro: Hmm, I believe I remember something about that name. Was it good or bad, I wonder.
"Joshua Vyndis, retainer to princess Ellis Rurijisa. A pleasure to meet you, Donovan."
[9:20 PM] MadGenius: Retainer. Well, not quite what I was looking for. Close, but no cigar.
[9:22 PM] MadGenius: "Charmed, I'm sure. Sir Vyndas ,you wouldn't happen to know what our next move is, do you? As cozy as this place is, I'm eager to get out as soon as possible."
[9:23 PM] MadGenius: "You're higher on the totem pole than I am, if you're a retainer to royalty. You're more likely to know than most."
[9:27 PM] Amasuro: "Our next move, huh?" Joshua's voice drifts off as he looks back towards the barricaded hallway, then turns to Donovan.
"We-..." he cuts off, thinking for a moment before speaking, "we're currently trying to assist the situation to the best of our abilities before re-engaging those monsters outside."
He grins at Donovan, "this castle is quite cozy, yes, so I would hate to see it infested with monsters. We barely held them off the first time."
[9:31 PM] MadGenius: Donovan grumbles.
[9:31 PM] MadGenius: "I figured I'd get an answer like that."
[9:31 PM] MadGenius: "Well, it was worth a shot."
[9:34 PM] MadGenius: "Oh, right" Donovan suddenly perks up. "If you're a retainer to one of the princesses, you might be able to help me. Would it be possible for me to request an audience with your liege? Or anyone of similar authority, really."
[9:36 PM] MadGenius: "I know it's odd, but I'm actually in between jobs, right now, and my skillset might be useful to have. Well, at least I was between jobs, before..." Donovan looks around for a moment, searching for the appropriate word, before gesturing broadly around him. "...before all this happened."
[9:36 PM] MadGenius: "Anyway, is this a possibility, currently?"
[9:42 PM] Amasuro: Joshua looks like he wanted to speak further on the previous topic, but holds his tongue as Donovan brings up his proposal.
"Quite possible, actually. Well, with how things are, a formal audience...or rather, a formal anything isn't exactly nessecary."
Joshua stops leaning on the wall, now standing straight in front of Donovan.
"When princess Ellis isn't busy, she's usually walking around the hallways. If you know what she looks like, feel free to talk to her."(edited)
[9:44 PM] MadGenius: "Well, to be honest, I don't."
[9:44 PM] MadGenius: "Never met her before."
[9:44 PM] MadGenius: "Never planned to until pretty much yesterday, in fact."
[9:45 PM] Amasuro: "Interesting. If I may ask, Donovan, what exactly is your skillset? And what job did you intend to get?"
[9:46 PM] Amasuro: "Besides your obvious axe wielding skill, of course."
[9:49 PM] MadGenius: "I worked as a general manager for Chi Fu's Trading and Shipping Company before I came here. I organized supply trains and warehouses for a living."
[9:51 PM] MadGenius: "Although my skillset is quite diverse, that's my specialty. On the off-chance there's a position here similar to that that needs filling, I figured I'd ask, even if the timing is a bit bizarre."
[9:51 PM] MadGenius: "The axe-slinging is a plus, but it's secondary, of course."
[9:56 PM] Amasuro: "Chi Fu? Oh, so you must be foreign then, right? Mmm, I remember that company was in a bit of a scandal a while ago concerning a shipment of Opium, but otherwise they are good people."
He scratches the back of his head.
"Anyway, general manager, huh? I'm sure someone with experience like that could easily help assist in rebuilding our damaged city. A high position in a rebuilding effort might be exactly what you need, but that is just my opinion."
[10:02 PM] MadGenius: "Excellent! Glad to hear it's a possibility."
[10:03 PM] MadGenius: "...although I myself am not foreign. Just Chi Fu himself."
[10:06 PM] Amasuro: "Noted."
Joshua continues to speak to the man, but it may have felt like his attention could have been elsewhere.
"Working for a shipping company, do you often travel to foreign places?" Joshua suddenly asked.
[10:18 PM] MadGenius: "I rarely did. Most of my time was spent at the office and warehouse, or at the docks."
[10:18 PM] MadGenius: "I went on the ships only a handful of times, really."
[10:20 PM] Amasuro: "Mmm, unfortunate. I wanted to ask you if you had any idea of what these monsters were."
Joshua shrugged, "well, I might as well ask. Do you have any idea what these things are?"
[10:23 PM] MadGenius: "No clue whatsoever. Your guess is as good as mine."
[10:36 PM] Amasuro: "I figured as much."
Joshua sighed, "we've still made no progress on this monsters at all. Its a rather confusing issue."
[11:26 PM] MadGenius: "There's no magicians here in the castle that can magic up some info on them?"
[11:26 PM] MadGenius: "Do some scrying, or augery, or something?"
[11:27 PM] MadGenius: "These things are clearly magic, so using magic on them might give us some know-how on them."
[11:27 PM] MadGenius: "Just a suggestion."
[11:29 PM] Amasuro: "The problem with that, is that these beasts simply...vanish when attacked. No trace at all. I wish we could capture one, perhaps, but...no luck so far."
"They are...probably summoned from somewhere. But how or why, I'm not sure."
[11:58 PM] MadGenius: "Well, neither do I."
[11:59 PM] MadGenius: "I suppose all we have to do is keep trying."
[11:59 PM] MadGenius: "Anyway, I'd better be off to find your employer. It was a pleasure to meet you, Sir Vyndas."
[12:01 AM] Amasuro: "Yes, yes, I am sure you are quite busy. I may see you later then, Donovan."
[12:01 AM] Amasuro: Joshua then turns and walks back down the hallway.
[12:04 AM] MadGenius: Donovan, after giving the barrier another look-over, heads off as well, feeling a bit better on the whole. He almost felt a little refreshed, and his restlessness was beginning to wear off as a result. Deciding that he almost certainly had no competition to whatever position Joshua had mentioned, he'd wait to find the no-doubt busy princess another day, and he instead headed off back to his room.
